WHAT IS JUDO?

Judo is a Japanese martial art built around the principle of “maximum efficiency, minimum effort,” using precise grips, footwork, and body positioning to redirect an opponent’s force. In training, you will practice safe falling, throwing techniques, and transitions to pins, chokes, and joint locks on the ground. Unlike striking arts, Judo focuses on close contact and clinch work, making it an excellent base for self-defense, grappling sports, and overall athletic development. Many of the throws and takedowns used in modern MMA and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu come directly from traditional Judo.

OUR JUDO PROGRAM

We are committed to offering structured, effective Judo training that helps you build real skill, not just collect classes. Our judo instructor is a first degree certified black belt, recognized by USA Judo and the USJA, which ensures you are learning a curriculum that aligns with national standards. Classes are designed so beginners can progress safely while more experienced students can refine details, combinations, and competition-style gripping and entries. We keep our class sizes manageable so you can get personal feedback on your posture, grips, and timing during drills and live rounds.

Just like our BJJ program, promotion in Judo at our academy is based on demonstrated knowledge, technical ability, and consistent effort on the mats rather than just time on the calendar. You will be guided through a clear path of techniques and concepts appropriate for your level, with an emphasis on strong fundamentals that will support you in randori (live sparring), cross-training, or competition.

JUDO IS GREAT FOR YOU IF YOU WANT TO:

Learn effective throws and takedowns that you can apply in self-defense or sport.
Build confidence in close-range situations and improve overall balance and coordination.
Cross-train to complement BJJ, Wrestling or MMA.
Get a challenging workout that develops strength, conditioning, and mental toughness.
